Are you passionate about pop culture and textiles? As a Textile Designer, you’ll get to bring unique designs to life for popular brands like Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe. This hybrid role involves crafting original textile prints and badge graphics in collaboration with the Design and Product Development teams. 

You’ll be hands-on in turning licensed artwork into vibrant, print-ready designs, ensuring everything meets industry standards and creative expectations. With a mix of creativity, trend awareness, and technical proficiency, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to products that fans love.

Responsibilities of the Textile Designer 

The following are the responsibilities of the Textile Designer at Hot Topic, BoxLunch, and Her Universe:

  • Collaborate closely with the Art Team Manager to develop original textile prints and graphics for DTR Licensed Fashion apparel.
  • Present design concepts to the Design and Merchant teams for review and feedback.
  • Create and prepare print-ready repeats from licensed artwork, ensuring accurate editing, recoloring, and Pantone color matching.
  • Design or redesign badge graphics using Licensor assets in alignment with brand aesthetics.
  • Utilize Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to modify, resize, and finalize artwork.
  • Work with product development to articulate printing and design techniques for factory execution.
  • Maintain excellent time and work management skills while operating in a hybrid setting.

Requirements for the Textile Designer

Given below are the qualifications, experience, and skills required for the Textile Designer:

Qualifications:

  • A certification, diploma, or degree in Graphic Arts, Textile Design, or a related creative field is required.
  • Formal training in fabric design, surface patterns, or digital illustration is preferred, ensuring a strong foundation in both creative and technical aspects of textile development.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of professional experience in textile design, preferably in a wholesale or vertical fashion business.
  • Prior experience working on licensed brands or characters is a strong plus, as this role demands understanding how to interpret and creatively enhance pop culture visuals.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard production processes such as screen printing, sublimation, and embroidery is expected.

Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop—these tools will be used daily to prepare and perfect designs for production.
  • Strong ability to hand-draw or replicate artwork in various styles to match licensed brand aesthetics and style guides.
  • Sharp understanding of Pantone color systems and the ability to color match designs to exact specifications.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively partner with the design, product development, and merchandising teams.
  • Ability to adapt designs for various production techniques such as silk screening, sublimation, embellishment, woven plaids, and dye treatments.

Shifts

The Textile Designer will follow a hybrid work schedule. Team members are expected to:

  • Work Onsite at the company’s California headquarters for 3 days a week, which promotes collaboration and efficient communication with the design and product development teams.
  • Work remotely for the remaining 2 days, allowing for flexibility and focus during creative production tasks.

Although the job operates during standard business hours, designers are expected to manage their time effectively to meet project deadlines and maintain consistent output.
