The Security Intern role at Opportunity Home San Antonio provides hands-on exposure to public sector security operations. This part-time position supports key administrative and operational tasks within the Security Division. Interns assist in compiling reports, analyzing crime statistics, and contributing to Fusion Center bulletins.
The role also involves data entry, document review, and participation in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) initiatives. Interns affiliated with a college or university must ensure compliance with their institution’s internship requirements.
Additionally, this position promotes collaboration with internal data governance teams and participation in emergency preparedness procedures. The internship encourages ethical use of Generative AI tools and supports professional growth within a structured operational framework.
Responsibilities of the Security Intern
The following are the responsibilities of the Security Intern at Opportunity Home San Antonio:
- Review and analyze police reports and crime statistics regularly
- Assist with preparing weekly and monthly crime reports
- Enter information into the Security Week – Evaluation and Review (SWEAR) system
- Help draft Fusion Center bulletins marked “Unclassified For Official Use Only”
- Support the creation of annual crime statistics reports
- Perform administrative tasks related to emergency planning and operational guidelines
- Participate in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) training, workgroups, and assignments
- Collaborate with internal teams to support data governance standards
- Understand and engage with roles like Data Trustees, Data Stewards, and System Custodians
- Follow established operational procedures during emergency or urgent situations
- Utilize Google Docs, Microsoft Office 365, and other cloud-based tools
- Use Generative AI tools responsibly and ethically in daily tasks
- Maintain consistent attendance and a professional presence in the workplace
- Complete any other duties as assigned within the internship scope

Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in a Bachelor’s degree program
- The field of study must be Criminal Justice or a related discipline
- Enrollment must be through an accredited college or university
Experience
- No prior professional experience required
- Must be able to use cloud-based applications like Google G Suite
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 or equivalent MAC/PC tools preferred
- Must pass a criminal background check, education/work history verification, and drug screening
