The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting healthcare providers in clinical settings. This position involves direct interaction with patients and staff, ensuring a smooth and professional experience throughout the care process. Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant
The following are the responsibilities of the Medical Assistant at BronxCare Clinics:
- First, greet patients with courtesy, introduce self by name and title, and maintain a professional image.
- Next, support performance and quality improvement initiatives, including data collection and adherence to safety and compliance policies.
- Prepare patients for visits by verifying identification, conducting intake screenings, and reviewing medical records.
- Moreover, manage patient flow by monitoring room availability, escorting patients, and assisting with rooming processes.
- As well, clean and set up exam rooms before and after each patient visit, ensuring infection control standards are followed.
- Assist providers with exams and procedures, including chaperoning, equipment setup, and helping patients on and off exam tables.
- Perform clinical tasks such as suture removal, dressing changes, phlebotomy, specimen preparation, and applying casts or braces (after training).
- Also, escort patients to and from exam rooms, radiology, or other departments as required.
- Use hospital systems to navigate EMRs, print documents, and manage patient records.
- Conduct safe discharge processes, explain post-visit instructions, schedule follow-ups, and sanitize rooms for the next patient.
- Answer phones courteously and professionally, following proper telephone etiquette.
- Participate in mandatory training and stay updated with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Lastly, maintain a professional appearance and follow BronxCare Health System’s code of conduct.
Requirements for the Medical Assistant
Given below are the qualifications, experience, and skills required for the Medical Assistant at BronxCare Clinics:
Qualifications:
- To begin with, a high School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Certified Medical Assistant in New York State
- Furthermore, current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Experience:
- Preferably, prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting
- Familiarity with medical procedures and patient care tasks
Skills:
- Proficiency in using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage time efficiently and multitask
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Physical Skills:
- Ability to assist patients with mobility, including lifting and transferring
- Capable of standing for extended periods and performing physical tasks related to clinical procedures
