The Cloud Engineer at SHI International Corp. will support internal teams by designing and managing cloud infrastructure within Microsoft Azure. This role emphasizes automation, scalability, and security. You will work with tools such as Terraform, Python, and Docker to build and maintain cloud-native solutions. Collaboration with DevOps, development, and security teams will be crucial to ensure the infrastructure supports business objectives.
You will also handle system monitoring, respond to incidents, and maintain clear documentation for workflows and architecture. The role is onsite in Austin, TX, and best suited for candidates with proven experience in automated deployments, cloud security, and containerization.
Responsibilities of the Cloud Engineer
The following are the responsibilities of the Cloud Engineer at SHI International Corp.:
- Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, ensuring systems are scalable, automated, and reliable.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to enable repeatable and consistent deployments.
- Create and maintain Python scripts to automate provisioning, configuration, and operational workflows.
- Build, manage, and optimize Docker-based environments, including custom image creation and container orchestration support.
- Monitor infrastructure and cloud-based applications, respond to incidents, and perform thorough root cause analysis to prevent future issues.
- Collaborate with DevOps, software development, and security teams to convert business needs into secure and scalable cloud solutions.
- Apply Azure security best practices, ensuring proper governance, access controls, and compliance are enforced.
- Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, automation workflows, and operational runbooks.
- Stay current with Azure service updates and emerging tools related to IaC, automation, and containerization, integrating them into cloud strategies as appropriate.
Requirements for the Cloud Engineer

Basic Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of formal education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Exposure to multi-cloud environments such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with observability tools like Azure Monitor, Datadog, or Prometheus/Grafana.
- Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with Microsoft Azure, including core services like Virtual Machines, Networking, Storage, Key Vault, and Azure Monitor.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience using Terraform to write modules and manage cloud infrastructure using IaC pipelines.
- At least 2 years of experience scripting in Python for infrastructure automation and system integration tasks.
Skills for the Cloud Engineer
- Proficiency in Docker, including container creation, image optimization, and managing containerized applications.
- Strong understanding of Azure IAM, RBAC, and cloud security best practices.
- Experience working with Git and CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, including participation in sprint planning and backlog grooming.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Certificates
- Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-204, or AZ-305 are strongly preferred.
