Responsibilities of the Information Security Engineer
The following are the responsibilities of the Information Security Engineer at Autonomize AI:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all security and compliance matters
- Design and implement security protocols aligned with HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC 2
- Lead penetration testing, vulnerability scans, and ongoing risk assessments
- Integrate security controls throughout the software development lifecycle
- Monitor and respond to security incidents with urgency and ownership
- Collaborate with auditors, vendors, and healthcare partners to maintain compliance
- Establish and maintain best practices, playbooks, and security policies
- Deliver internal security awareness and training programs
- Conduct regular checks on systems and solutions to identify and report vulnerabilities
- Respond to customer security audits and assessments with accurate, timely reports
Requirements for the Information Security Engineer

Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in information security
- Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, including EHRs and claims platforms
- Deep understanding of HIPAA, HITECH, and SOC 2 compliance frameworks
- Hands-on experience with network security, IAM, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Proven ability to lead audits and work with healthcare payors and providers
- Clear written communication and strong documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HITRUST certification processes
- Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, and healthcare claims standards
- Experience in high-growth startups or mission-critical environments
- Knowledge of trust and safety in Generative AI systems
Experience
- 5+ years managing security in healthcare or related regulated environments
- Direct experience implementing compliance strategies and leading audits
Skills for the Information Security Engineer
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to solve complex problems
- Ability to drive programs independently and follow through under pressure
- Excellent coordination and cross-functional communication
- High level of ownership and sense of urgency
Certificates
- No specific certifications required, but HITRUST knowledge is a plus!
